Bird Flu?
Bird Flu is a really contiguous disease and is also known by the name of Avian Flu where Avian is another name for the word bird. In comparison of intensity bird flu virus is as serious as that of swine flu. The mode of transmission for this type of virus is through in contact with the person carrying the virus or to be present in area which has outbreak of bird flu.
It represents the specific condition of the bird carrying it. But it is mostly observed that wild birds do not show signs even if they are infected they have kind of build resistance towards it.
The most infected birds from bird flu are hens and the virus can destroy whole of your poultry farm as it spreads with increased speed. The usual symptoms observed in the birds are low production of eggs, messed up feathers and some problems with respiration.
In scientific terminology the virus is known as H5N1. The H stands for hem agglutinin which is name of a protein that is responsible for binding the virus to the cell and causes infection.
The human do not get infected to the virus by eating it rather coming in contact with it while cooking it.
As the name explains it all the symptoms of bird flu are like flu in humans and birds both followed with body pains and sore throat. After one gets infected with the virus the symptoms take almost three to seven days to get visible but by that time anti viral agents are not effective and patients have to bear consequences mostly resulting in death.
Although all birds can be get infected with the virus but the most common birds are hens and turkeys. Mostly the people in villages and ones residing in developing countries suffer from these kinds of viruses. With every new strain of virus the older drugs render useless as the older virus develops immunity towards the older drug. Thus the effort needs to be put in research and development of drugs for the bird flu to make new drugs for the virus. The new drugs introduced by the name of Relenza and Tamiflu. These drugs after tests have proved to be really effective but they are short in supply and different to get from market.
Perhaps one reason of shortage of the medicine or vaccine is that it is only manufactured in facilities at United States of America but due to wide spread of disease and more demand that plants have also started manufacturing it in United kingdom.
Some medicines that are usually used for influenza can be helpful in controlling the symptoms of influenza and reduces the severity of the influenza but they do not cure the viral disease.
If there is spread of bird flu and one feels the symptoms it is advisable to get treatment as early as within forty eight hours of the infection it can help you cover the disease as soon as possible and the Tamiflu medicine helps in prevention as well as cure of disease.
