While adults are more aware of the disadvantages of an unhealthy lifestyle, it is children who suffer the most from obesity.

Contrary to the old concept that children can afford a diet rich in excessive fats; studies reveal that certain eating habits that are developed in the early years of life, result in serious diseases in the later years. Diabetes and osteoporosis are two diseases that result due to unhealthy eating habits and insufficient intake of calcium. The human body changes rapidly and continuously from the age of two to twenty. This growth is due to the rapid absorption of calcium for bone development and other nutrients which help the body attain its full vigor and strength.

The energy requirements for children vary according to different age groups. For instance, a 2 year old has a daily caloric requirement of 1300 whereas a 5 year old needs an average of 1700 calories daily. A teenage girl requires 2200 and a teenage boy requires about 2800 calories daily in order to maintain a healthy mind and body.

The food nutrition values may vary depending on the height and build of the child.

As children grow, their eating habits tend to change greatly depending on their daily activities and energy requirements. It is common for teenagers to develop rapacious food cravings in order to support their dynamic activities and behavior. Many others tend to develop erratic eating habits that may be highly temperamental. This is where the importance health nutrition comes into play. As most children have a tendency and inclination to overeat when experiencing mood swings it is important to control and master these cravings.

A commonly accepted fact regarding health nutrition is that snacking may lead to obesity. Studies now reveal that snacking on healthy and nutritious food items may actually prevent individuals from consuming too much high-fat fast foods and sugary snacks. Providing your kids with snacks that are rich in vitamins, minerals and protein and low in processed sugar and salt, will indeed save him from various nutritional dangers and risks.

As overweight children are at higher risks of turning into obese adults, healthy eating and active lifestyle are the two most important changes to make for a better life.

While most parents are at a loss when it comes to developing healthy eating habits for their children, there are a few tips and techniques that can help you better control their health and save them from a nutrition disaster.

To prevent your children from becoming addicted to fast food and cheesy burgers, it is highly recommended that you pack their lunch yourself.

Instead of hastily packing away processed foods and snacks, go for healthier alternatives such as carrot sticks and fruits. Fruits are a great way to boost the body’s energy and curb the sudden sugar cravings that children tend to feel during lunch hours. Avoid fat-laden fries and foods rich in Trans fats. Home-made cookies and sandwiches are also healthier options that are sure to keep your children active throughout the day.

Child obesity is increasing at an alarming rate. One of the major factors attributable to this rise is the over-usage of indoor video games and chat soft-wares. This exchange of healthy activities with stagnant and sedentary sittings is one of the major factors that contribute to unhealthy lifestyle.

Optimum health nutrition requires a combination of balanced diet and active lifestyle that thrives on a daily exercise routine and enjoyment. Inducing these healthy changes in your life is sure to give you and your child a healthy mind and a healthy body.
